Event description
Learn to write an impressive & effective Artist Statement with practice exercises and examples.

About this Event

An artist statement is most often the front line of communication between an artist and the public. It is used when submitting your portfolio to competitions, galleries, and art fairs. It may sometimes be displayed when people are viewing your works in person or on your website and read by people from all over the world.

Join us in the UPSTAIRS CLASSROOM of SOMArts Cultural Center on May 12, 2020 to hear from guest speaker. artist, gallerist and educator, Stephen C. Wagner on clear, concise and consistent ways of writing an impressive Artist Statement . Learn how to communicate appropriate information about yourself and your art with effective structure. Stephen’s presentation will include helpful examples and practice exercises.

As you grow and evolve as an artist, you’ll want to revisit these steps and revise your artist statement to reflect your most current work. Your art only is half the job of an artist. Communication and professionalism make up the other half.

About the Presenter: Stephen C. Wagner is a professional artist and educator who has taught workshops and classes for art organizations and colleges throughout California. Through his speaking on professional development for artists, Stephen encourages other artists to commit to their artwork and take the steps necessary to become more successful. His lectures offer artists insight to jump-start their artist career, with emphasis on how to obtain clear focus on their intention for their artwork, create a strategic plan for their artist career, create an impressive artist portfolio website, and master the business of art.

Stephen is the managing partner at Arc Gallery & Studios in San Francisco. In addition, he was the Program Development Coordinator for the San Diego Art Institute, has been a consultant for the San Diego Children's Museum, and was on the Board of Directors for Arteachin Palm Desert.
