Event description
Learn the basics of plein-air painting with fine artist Dawn Buckingham, inspired by CMATO's California Impressionist exhibition, GIFTED!

About this event

Have you ever wanted to work plein-air? Join artist Dawn Buckingham to explore what it means to create “out of doors” in the style of famous California Impressionists during our next Artist Workshop!

Dawn invites us into her studio to share her work in a "behind the curtain" view of a practicing artist. She will provide an introduction on what art supplies work well for this process, ideas for how to approach working outside, and end with some simple painting techniques. This workshop is geared toward beginning artists and recommended for ages 14+.

Admission for Artist Workshop is free but pre-registration is required. This session will be held via Zoom.

About the Artist

Dawn Buckingham is an award winning artist with a passion for capturing the landscape in all seasons. She began to pursue pastel painting after retirement from education in 2012 and now exhibits her work in both local and juried national shows and plein air competitions. As a career educator, she also enjoys introducing others to the pastel medium through No Fear - Just a Pastel Play Day classes and leads weekly online pastel studio sessions.

Dawn believes that the arts have a major role to play as a tool for raising awareness of the effects of global warming and the consequences of human activity on our planet. “My growth as an artist is a journey of personal expression, appreciating moments in time, and sharing my joy of painting with others through teaching.”
