Get "Ready to Hang" with art professionals who have tips that will elevate the overall presentation of your artwork

About this Event

Get "Ready to Hang" with Matt Mckinley of Mckinley Art Solutions along with Artist & Art-in-Neighborhoods coordinator, Shane Izykowski. In this unique Professional Development Workshop Shane and Matt will provide live tool & hardware demonstrations while speaking on the significance of preparation, safety, longevity and professionalism when delivering and presenting your work. Each will offer insider tips, shortcuts, secret weapons, and work-arounds in a fun, interactive presentation.

About Matt Mckinley: Matt was Chief Curator at ARTworkSF Gallery prior to creating his own consulting business, McKinley Art Solutions. He has been an invited speaker for the Small Business Association of San Francisco, consultant for the exhibit, "Reversing Vandalism" sponsored by The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, juror for 7th and 8th Altered Barbie exhibits and the Fairfield Visual Arts Association's 45th Juried Exhibit (in 2008), panelist on contemporary abstraction by artists of color at 40 Acres Art Gallery in Sacramento. Currently, Matt is a working member of the Bay Area Model's Guild and Curatorial Associate with BorderZone Arts, an international non-profit art and program organization, and an ArtSpan board member since 2011. Matt has also concepted, curated, juried, and designed exhibits for the Queer Cultural Center, SOMArts Cultural Center, Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center, Asian American Women Artists Association, San Francisco Sex Information and Lambda Legal, The San Francisco Artists' Resource Center, Project Open Hand, and San Francisco Women Artists Gallery.

About Shane Izykowski: Shane moved to the Bay Area in 2015 from Pennsylvania and has worn many hats over the course of his professional career including photographer, videographer, graphic designer, set designer, lead artist for Madame Tussauds SF Wax Museum and Museum Preparator at the SFO Museum. He was a resident artist in ArtSpan's Journal Building program from 2015 to 2018 and also served on our Open Studios Committee for two years. Shane now works as our Art-In-Neighborhoods coordinator, curating and installing shows of ArtSpan artists' work at sites throughout the city. Shane also keeps up his own art practice, concentrating on Dark Art oil paintings and sculptures, at his Pacific Felt Factory studio in the Mission. Between creating and working with ArtSpan he somehow finds time to host the Drawing From Experience Podcast, dedicated to helping artists stay inspired and practice proper business techniques.

About ArtSpan Artist Workshops: ArtSpan presents monthly 90-minute workshops designed to sharpen business and financial literacy for professional artists, prepare artists for exhibiting work inside and outside the studio, and encourage community between fellow artists and the public. Through these community events ArtSpan creates a platform for artists to thrive, fostering a Bay Area that values the arts.

All events are held at SOMArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan Street, 94103, unless otherwise noted. Workshops are free for all SF Open Studios Artists and Members.

General Public: $20 suggested donation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
