About this event
On Wednesday, July 20th, we will be holding an artist talk with Jennifer Johnson at 6 pm in the Oar Pub, Park Towne Place. Light refreshments will be served.
Jennifer Johnson is a Philadelphia-based sculptor who works with ceramics and fibers, but also electronics, video, and performance, to create installations. She is interested in the production of history and focuses on how architecture reveals lived experiences.
Included in the current Park Towne Place temporary exhibition, You Are Here, is Johnson’s series Linger, which was inspired by the Park Towne Place campus itself.
Based on Johnson’s extensive research, the Linger series looks back at Park Towne Place's founding and the mid-twentieth century transformation of Philadelphia. With this history in mind, Linger asks “How do we make sense out of the constant change in Philadelphia, especially right now when the city is going through another period of rapid transformation? How do we treasure what remains and remember what is gone?"
You Are Here explores themes of mapping and placemaking through work that studies the buildings we populate, the bodies we inhabit, and how we navigate the world at large. In this exhibition, a group of seven artists take on various approaches to these themes to examine the places where we live, work, and play as a way to gain insight into our collective needs and aspirations.
