Artist Talk: Danielle Orchard
Event Information
Description
Tamarind Institute invites the public to a talk by Danielle Orchard, the third recipient of the Frederick Hammersley Artist Residency at Tamarind Institute. The talk will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the George Pearl Hall auditorium, in the School of Architecture and Planning, across from Tamarind Institute. Parking is available at Tamarind or in the visitor lot east of George Pearl Hall.
Painter Danielle Orchard maintains a consistent interest in the figure and what she recognizes as the “anxiety around intimacy” by pulling from moments in art history when the human figure has been used to indicate an “otherwise hidden psychological position.” Her confident use of line and expressive color gives her paintings an air of immediacy while allowing for the extended gestures of rendering and stylization. Born in Indiana and currently living in New York, Orchard holds an MFA from Hunter College and is represented by Jack Hanley Gallery in New York City. http://danielleorchard.com
