Artist Registration // 14th Annual UFC Chalk Art Festival
Friday, June 17 @ 2pm to Sunday June 19th at 6pm!
Welcome to the artist registration for Utah Foster Care’s 14th Annual Chalk Art Festival at The Gateway. This year, we are promoting it as a three-day festival—June 17-19. As usual, artists will create murals on Friday and Saturday, with judging taking place at 4pm on Saturday. Murals will remain in place for viewing on Sunday for Fathers Day.
Artists must register to participate.
Registration is available by purchasing one of the "ticket" options above. Prices are the same as last year, and there is a limited number of early-bird spaces available. When we reach capacity, you may place your name on a waiting list.

You can register before you even know who's on your team. Register and pay your team fee to save your place today — you will then receive an email, inviting you to submit details about team members (shirt size, etc) and to submit your artwork.

CONTEST & PRIZE CATEGORIES
Best in Theme
The theme this year is “Every Child Deserves a Family.”
Finding foster families to care for Utah children who have been abused and neglected is the whole reason Utah Foster Care holds the Chalk Art Festival. This year, we are offering prizes in the adult and youth categories for the mural that best illustrates why children of all ages in foster care (including teens) deserve loving and safe families.
Best in Show
All artists are automatically judged in this category, which considers best use of color, texture, medium, and execution — 1st & 2nd prizes for both adult and youth entries will be awarded.
The people who view your artwork will vote by text for their favorite adult and student mural.
The Chalk Art Festival also raises donations for special programs serving children in foster care. We encourage each artist/team to find a sponsor for their square. Sponsors will be recognized and the artist who garners the largest amount of sponsor donations will be honored — contest details will be e-mailed to registrants, separately.
REGISTRATION OPEN NOW!
We encourage artists in grades 6 thru 12 to register in teams (of 2-4 artists). Youth murals are 6x6 feet. A limited number of murals will be available at an “early bird” discount of $35 each.
Artists ages 18 and over (post-high school) are also encouraged to register in teams. You may register as an individual but the rate is the same as a team rate. Adult murals are either 6x8 or 8x8 feet. A limited number of murals of each size will be available at an “early bird” discount of $75 and $100 each, respectively.
How to Register
Registering as a youth artist/team or as an adult artist/team is the same:
- Team captains do not need to have teams in place before registering.
- Team captains register their teams here, on Eventbrite, and pay the registration fees. You will receive an email requesting team info in April. The deadline for team details is May 1st.
- During registration, teams will be asked whether they’d like to participate in the Best in Theme contest (all participants are automatically in the running for Best in Show and People’s Choice).
- Every team must provide preview art of their murals. Look for an email with further details!
Registration closes when we reach 70 teams or April 15th—whichever comes first!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why are we being asked to register as teams? We want to involve as many artists as possible, especially students! Some artists new to the medium underestimate the difficulty and time commitment in putting chalk to pavement.
I just registered for the festival. How will you know whether I'm on a team? As mentioned in the "How to Register" section: Team captains register their teams here, on Eventbrite, and pay the registration fees. You will receive an email requesting team info in April. The deadline for team details is May 1st.
What about refunds? Refunds are available until noon on May 1st, 2016. No exceptions (sorry).
What if I want a different size mural than the choices provided? Having a limited number of mural sizes available makes the layout process for our volunteers go more smoothly. We ask you to keep your mural the size chosen or go smaller. We can not accomodate larger murals in most cases due to limited space.
