Artist Statement

Do you ever wonder what has been forgotten as we become more and more removed from the natural world? I do. Not only does it make me think about my relationship to nature, but it is also interesting to me to explore natures energies and processes like regeneration, erosion, and the formation of minerals. Or why are some plants invasive and some not? Why is diversity of what we grow important? Do we think of where things come from and how they are made? Do we think about how products we buy use up resources by the time they get to us? Foraging for fiber to make paper or objects from local plants and using color from local clays, inspires my artwork. Working with natural materials reduces my carbon footprint. Wendell Berry reminds us… “What We Need is Here.”
