Event description

Description

Please join us at Edgar Miller Legacy for a magical evening of music and sound as we celebrate the works of composer and multi-instrumentalist, Elliot Bergman. Elliot will be presenting new musical pieces inspired by Chicago’s forgotten designer and artist Edgar Miller and his most ambitious “total environment” of art and architecture, the Glasner Studio in Old Town.

A hearty dinner is included with the evening’s activities, and cocktails are being generously sponsored by Bond and Royal.

Please reserve your seat soon as space is limited. Your donation helps to cover some of the costs of the residency program, and allows a small stipend for the artist-in-residence.

About Elliot Bergman

Growing up in and around Chicago, Bergman is particularly influenced by his love of the bright polyrhythms of West African and Caribbean music. He will spend several months visiting Edgar Miller's Glasner Studio to write and work, culminating in an intimate performance and recording in the house.

About the Residency Program

Edgar Miller Legacy inspires contemporary artists through experiences and education built around Edgar Miller’s creative life and his visionary and inspirational handmade homes. The Glasner Studio Residency provides a format for artists to develop and cultivate new ideas and works of art.

About Edgar Miller Legacy

Edgar Miller (1899-1993) and his cohort of self-styled artists, designers, and craftspeople built two radically original art colonies on Chicago’s Near North Side during the Chicago Art Renaissance of the 1920s and '30s. Modeled after legendary artist's neighborhoods of turn-of-the-century Paris, these artistic enclaves gave birth to a vibrant arts and crafts community which transformed Old Town, and Chicago. Fortunately, these incredibly historic and innovative complexes still stand. Edgar Miller Legacy offers this residency program at Miller’s masterpiece of art, design, and architecture, the Glasner Studio, so that contemporary Chicago artists, artisans, craftspeople and creatives of all types can visit, explore, and be inspired.

Edgar Miller Legacy is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and any additional donations help us to continue and expand upon programs like this. Your additional donation is 100% tax-deductible.

A note about cell phones, cameras, and recording devices:

Due to the extremely intimate feel of the Glasner Studio space, and the absolute necessity to keep unintended electronic interruptions to zero, we kindly request that you check your cell phones and other electronic devices with us before entering the performance space. No guests are allowed into the performance space with cameras, cell phones, or other electronic recording devices. However, you are welcome to bring your sketchpad and pencil!

After the performance, your devices will be returned. Photography for personal use is permitted before and after the performance.
