Event description

Description

This is an exciting, private version of the regular 'Coming Home' workshop, for woman of faith exclusively. We are thrilled to explore and experience the workshop one layer deeper, as we will be in a room of woman that share the same sense of faith and spirituality. We believe this workshop when shared by women in the same city and church communities could be incredibly powerful and impactful. If you are unfamiliar with the workshop here is a bit about it:

Coming Home: A group workshop sponsored by Nettle's Tale Swimwear, where you will explore how to feel at home in the body you're already in. Facilitated by Hillary McBride therapist, author, researcher and podcast host (The Liturgists, Other People's Problems) Hillary will speak and facilitate activities and discussions about how to make peace with the skin you're in over the course of the day. Come and explore, in a safe setting, the theory and science about how to feel OK with your body, with practical skills to change your inner thoughts and cultural dialogue.

The workshop will include a generous discount for those who have attended and completed the workshop. If you are not in a place at the end of the workshop day to swimsuit shop, you can use the discount at any time in the future!

Part of the cost of this workshop may be covered by your extended health plan. If you have extended health benefits in BC, check to see if they cover the services of a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). Hillary will issue a receipt to registered participants in the amount of $137.50 (the cost of a 75-minute therapy session) that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Not all insurance covers RCCs, so if you have questions, make sure to contact your insurance provider.

Hosted at SOMA, Artisan Churches community space

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

SOMA is located at Soctia Street and East Broadway and this area does have non-metre parking spot options for those driving, but you will have to park 3-6 blocks away from the event space around dude chilling park area. You'll probably need to plan to arrive 20 to 30 minutes early so you can park and walk to the space because you will not want to have to plug a meter during workshop hours. If transiting to the event, both the 99 B-Line along Broadway or the #3 down Main St (get off at Broadway) are great bus options (and connect with the Canada Line and Skytrain) or we recommend carpooling or taking an evo or car2go.

What can I bring into the event?

You will be supplied with writing utensils, stationary and all other materials of this nature needed for the event. We want you to feel like "coming home" and this is a very embodied experience, so you should feel comfortable! Bring a cozy throw, your favourite slippers, a throw pillow, or a sweater! All snacks food and beverages up during the event will be provided, please email with any food sensitivities. There will be a 90min break around 6 or 6:30pm for dinner, we are thinking of doing a soup and buns and salad type deal in the space since there is a kitchen, but this is still TBD. If we end up sticking with an out of space meal break, there are many restaurants and cafes walking distance to SOMA that we have listed below! Or feel free to bring your own food and head to a cafe or stay in the community space and journal, reflect or read on your break.

For Gluten-Free and food sensitivities, we recommend The Wallflower (East side of Main Street, around 8th ave) https://www.thewallflowermoderndiner.com/

Nuba Restaurant (East 3rd Avenue), Fresh Lebanese!

Great Casual Dining options:

-Eight 1/2 Restaurant (8th Ave, west of Main) http://eightandahalf.ca/

-The Whip (6th Ave East of Main) https://www.thewhiprestaurant.com/

Budget (vegetarian and non-vegetarian) Options:

-Budgies Burritos (Kingway and 8th, West Side of Kingsway across from community centre) http://www.budgiesburritos.com/

-Noodle Box (Broadway and Main Street) http://www.noodlebox.ca/

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please email julia@nettlestale.com and put "coming home" in the subject line and she will happily get back to you within 48 hours about any questions or concerns.

What's the refund policy?

We are happy to fully refund you up to 48 hours after ticket purchase. If you cancel within 14 days of the event, we will give you 50% of your ticket cost back and you will be able to attend a future workshop in lieu for 50% off. Any cancellations less than 14 days prior to the event are non-refundable and you will need to either attend yourself or sell your ticket to someone else.
