Event description

Description

If you've dreamed of making fresh-baked bread but don't know where to begin, join us for this intensive 4-hour class. You'll work alongside other students learning the basic skills for making great bread from scratch using fresh, stone-milled flours. This class will be taught by Pastry Chef Abby Love, rated one of the most talented bread bakers in Austin,Texas by Edible Austin in 2016, and in partnership with Barton Springs Mill. Abby is passionate about sharing her knowledge and helping you learn how to make perfect bread.

Abby will walk you through the bread baking process–from making a sourdough starter and mixing dough to proper kneading techniques. The class will cover essential steps such as proofing, shaping, and baking. Then you will practice these new skills by making delicious artisan bread. Throughout the process, you will learn more about working with the unique heritage grain flours that come from our local grain mill. Students will be using flours from Barton Springs Mill to make their loaves.

The class will be held in Elgin, Texas at Skinny Lane Farm. Students will gather in the farms’ cozy kitchen for their cooking class and then afterward will enjoy a tour of the farm and farm animals. Light refreshments will be served.

To ensure a high quality experience we are limiting tickets to this event to 10. We will be offering two opportunities to take this class:

Saturday, February 17th

or

Saturday, March 24th

About Abby Love:

Originally from Louisiana, Pastry Chef Abby Love trained in bakeries and restaurants across the East Coast before settling in Austin in 2013. She joined the team of hyper-local restaurant Dai Due in 2014, and while there she sank her heart and soul into developing the naturally leavened breads and seasonal desserts that rotate through the restaurant’s ever-changing menu. Since 2017 she has been focused on honing her own bread baking craft and helping others do the same. Of all the accolades she could receive, Abby’s proudest moments are when her dishes evoke memories of grandmothers and family tables.
