Speaker

Trey Ideker, Ph.D, Professor, Department of Medicine and Adjunct Professor, Departments of Bioengineering and Computer Science at the UC San Diego. Director of the National Resource for Network Biology, Director of the Cancer Cell Map Initiative, & Director of the Psychiatric Cell Map Initiative

Dr. Ideker is a Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego. He is the Director of the National Resource for Network Biology, the Cancer Cell Map Initiative and the Psychiatric Cell Map Initiative. He is a pioneer in using genome-scale measurements to construct network models of cellular processes and disease.

Artificially intelligent models of cancer for precision diagnosis and treatment

A major ambition of artificial intelligence lies in translating patient data to successful therapies. Machine learning models face particular challenges in biomedicine, however, including handling of extreme data heterogeneity and lack of mechanistic insight into predictions. Here, we argue for “visible” approaches that guide model structure with experimental biology.
