Event description
Interested in Machine Learning but don't know where to start? Get exposed to the AI/ML field by connecting with experts from Vector Inst.

About this Event

AI has the potential to transform every industry and change our world, we have seen groundbreaking research in the field of machine learning and deep learning.

Since Vector Institute has been a leading example in this field, we are delighted to invite three Phd. affiliates from Vector Institute for an interactive panel discussion on AI applications in the medical field and the future.

Our Panelists

Rober Boshra is a postgraduate affiliate at the Vector Institute with a primary focus on explainable machine learning for brain injury assessment. Rober has prioritized the development of a specialized skill-set, encompassing the disciplines of Biomedical Engineering (PhD), Neuroscience (MSc), and Computer Science (BSc), to enable several investigations of unique interactions and applications of machine learning in healthcare. Rober's recent work has leveraged machine learning in the assessment of concussions using electrophysiological measures of brain function in adolescents and retired professional athletes. Rober is engaged in other clinical investigations, of note: 1) a study targeting the creation of an automated coma prognosis tool, and 2) a study of consciousness markers under general anaesthesia during live surgery. Rober also serves as the Director, AI & Technology at VoxNeuro Inc.

Daniyal Liaqat is a fifth year PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, supervised by Prof. Eyal de Lara and Prof. Frank Rudzicz. He is also a student affiliate at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence. His area of interest includes continuous sensing using mobile and wearable devices for health monitoring applications. His previous work focused on mechanisms to enable energy efficient continuous sensing. Currently he is working on using smartwatches to monitor patients with chronic lung disease over a period of several months with the goal of detecting and predicting changes in patients' health.

Anastasiia Razdaibiedina is a computational biology PhD student at the University of Toronto and a postgraduate affiliate at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Her research lies at the intersection of biomedical imaging and computer vision, and she is co-supervised by Prof. Brenda Andrews and Prof. Jimmy Ba. In her main project, Anastasia leverages large-scale microscopy datasets to develop deep-learning based unsupervised method that predicts how different proteins function in a cell. In addition to that, Anastasia is working on GAN-based biomedical image restoration, statistical analysis of genetic mutants and semi-supervised learning.
