Art Writing Symposium
Saturday, November 14th, 2020
10 am - 4 pm Central
Tennessee State University Department of Art and Design, Tennessee State University Languages, Literature and Philosophy (LLP), I Want to Write Initiative and Number Inc. invite you to the first annual Art Writing Symposium.
The Art Writing Symposium invites TSU students, local universities, K-12 art educators, artists, writers, and community members to participate. This symposium will offer students, writing professionals, and educators a space to develop their personal language and provide time for thought and theory to become a viable practice. In a broad spectrum of continually evolving ways of seeing, thinking, and communicating, our aim is for writers of all levels to develop translatable skills, honest dialogue, and move to authentic expression.
The Art Writing Symposium will offer six different sessions to explore art and writing. Participants will choose which workshops to participate in, picking between; Ashley Lawal of Urbanite interviewing Artist Omari Booker and writer Erica Ciccarone or learn about Artists from TSU’s Historical Black College/Universities (HBCU) collection. Headliner Maria Hamilton Abegunde will start the event by leading us through healing modalities and exploration of self/memory/trama. Join the session Poetry and Protest with spoken word artist Tia Smedley to build a choreopoem. Bobbi Negrón will lead a sign-making workshop; utilizing language and present-day movements call to action.
Offered for free, participants will need internet access to join the day of dialogue and workshops via Zoom. Schedule Coming soon!
