Description

Join the Center for Genomic Gastronomy for a lecture and Q&A session about our research into plant and microbial Food Futures: Endophyte Club.

Q: How will the microbes that live inside of plants change how we grow and eat food in the 21st century?

We will present the story of two years of artistic & DIY biological research about the microorganisms inside of plants, sharing some experiments, recipes and new questions.

We'll also be hosting an Endophyte Supper Club event on June 22nd. Seats for the supper are extremely limited, and we will be raffling off tickets at the lecture.

About the Center for Genomic Gastronomy:

The Center is an artist-led think tank that examines the biotechnologies and biodiversity of human food systems.

Our mission is:

* to map food controversies
* to prototype alternative culinary futures
* to imagine a more just, biodiverse & beautiful food system.

The Center presents its research through public lectures, research publications, meals and exhibitions. Since 2010, the Center has conducted research and exhibited in Europe, Asia and North America. We collaborate with scientists, chefs, hackers and farmers.

About the Endophyte Club:

At the Endophyte Club biological hobbyists meet to identify, discuss and trade information about new, rare and hard to access microorganisms. The race is on: who will get to unlock, collect and share the secrets of the microbiome era?

Endophytes are the microorganisms, especially fungi, that live inside of plants. The relationship between an endophyte and its host plant is not well understood, but some of these microorganisms are believed to enhance host growth and nutrient acquisition, as well as improve the plant’s ability to tolerate abiotic stresses. Researchers around the world are isolating novel endophytes to investigate their potential agricultural or even pharmaceutical applications. For two years, the Center has been running a DIY bioart project investigating the potential of endophytes in many locations around the world:
