Art on Screen 2021 Film Series
Event Information
About this Event
Art on Screen, Public Art UHS’s annual film series, offers a selection of curated films that explore concepts and ideas related to contemporary art and expand our appreciation of the artists and artworks in our permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Held each spring at the University of Houston’s Cullen Performance Hall, the film series offers movie selections suitable for all ages and publics. Tours and other related programs compliment the film lineup.
Inspired by the exploration and usage of color in a variety of 20th-century art movements, Art on Screen 21 focuses on films that made significant cinematographic advancements through their use of color, beginning with the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz. This year's lineup also includes Pleasantville (1998, directed by Gary Ross); Free Color, a documentary following Carlos Cruz-Diez on his quest to realize his ultimate artwork (2020, directed by Alberto Arvelo); and The Dark Side of Oz , a film and music experience paring The Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd's 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon.
Bring your favorite movie snacks and non-alcoholic beverage!
