Event description

Description

September is National Recovery Month. Join us to celebrate and support individuals and families in our community who are enjoying life in recovery from alcohol and drugs.

This walk is part of Prelude’s ART OF RECOVERY celebration during National Recovery Month. Through visual arts, music and stories, our goal is to present positive views of recovery and recovering people.

Sign-in begins at 1:00pm with the walk beginning at 1:30pm. Take in the natural beauty of Trueblood Lake, hear stories of recovery, view works of Art created by Prelude patients, and enjoy the live music of Ben Schmidt and Friends. Water and refreshments will be on hand along the walk area.

Rain or shine, we are walking in support of individuals and families in recovery.

REGISTER PRIOR TO 5:00PM, SEPTEMBER 15 AND RECEIVE A FREE T-SHIRT AT THE WALK.

This is not a fundraiser event but we will accept free-will donations to assist people currently receiving treatment.

Bio about the live music artist Ben Schmidt:

Singer Songwriter Ben Schmidt hails from Chicago, Il, but has planted roots firmly in the Iowa soil. His songs are steeped in the poetry of the Iowa landscape, drawing imagery from the everyday routines, struggles, and miracles of the human experience. With musical styles from Folk to Blues to Country and Soul, Schmidt has developed a rich texture of sound inside of which his characters can dance, pray, celebrate, and mourn. Schmidt has released three CD’s of original music and has been performing since the turn of the century. He has composed the soundtrack for Emmy nominated documentary film “Dri...ftless” , and has written a concept record based on Lisa Schlesinger’s play “In the Wake of the Grabow Riots.” Schmidt performs solo and in various ensemble configurations with veteran musicians from the eastern Iowa music scene. His music has been featured on Iowa Public Radio’s “Live From Studio One” , “Java Blend” , and “The Folk Tree” , as well as WFMT Chicago’s “Midnight Special” folk showcase. Schmidt is the owner and engineer at Rescued Rabbit Studio – a small recording space where he helps to record and produce the work of independent artists and bands.
