About this Event

TWO DAY EVENT - VIRTUAL

September 15th 9:00AM - 12:00PM PST

September 16th 9:00AM - 12:00PM PST

Managers are the front-line of company performance. If a manager managing 5 people can increase each individual’s output 5%, there is a significant positive impact on the business. And yet, high performing individual contributors are often promoted into management and expected to be successful, despite management requiring orthogonal skills to those that make a good individual contributor. After being promoted, most managers aren’t given any training or tools to support them.

I believe that the most effective managers are able to blend practical management skills like giving feedback and setting priorities with excellent self awareness, and an understanding of the psychology and biology of humans in work. For example, a manager may have learned tools for delegation, but if they can’t see that they mistrust certain team members, or that the language they use stops people from asking them questions about priorities, they won’t create a high performance environment.

The Art of Management will give you a completely fresh view of management, balancing the practical tools and techniques to - for example - effectively delegate responsibilities and give difficult feedback, while developing the empathy necessary to apply tools and techniques with confidence and kindness.

Through the Art of Management you will gain

  • A framework for motivating 21st century employees
  • Tools to delegate the right tasks, to the right people in an effective way
  • A practical approach to giving feedback that makes a difference
  • A deep understanding of the biology and psychology that underpins management
  • A better sense of the balance between “doing” and “managing”

Hundreds of managers have taken Art of Management courses. In post-training surveys, the Art of Management averages 9 out of 10 in participant feedback scores.

Here are some comments from participants, as illustrated by this praise from Art of Management managers:

“I took away new tools, tips, and conversation guides that I will use to have more effective dialog with team members.”

“Regardless if a person has long term leadership experience or if they are not actively in a leadership role, there is something to be gained by taking this class.”

“It's valuable to touch on how emotionally laborious being a manager is. Letting managers know that these feelings will creep up, and how to weather that storm, is extremely useful.”

“Great class. Expert teacher. Succinct presentation. Lots of productive interaction and participation.”
