Two day workshop expands on Elena’s book, The Art of Coaching Teams: Building Resilient Communities That Transform Schools

About this Event

The Art of Coaching Teams

Duration: Two days

Who Should Attend: This workshop is relevant to anyone who leads a team: site and central office administrators, teacher leaders, and coaches. If possible, we encourage entire teams to attend, as experiencing this learning as a unit has proven to be transformational for many!

Prerequisites: None. Although not required, participants will benefit from first attending The Essentials of The Art of Coaching or The Core Collection Sampler to develop the skill set for coaching individuals that is foundational for coaching groups of people.

Description: How do we build teams that are healthy, resilient, and collaborative, that stay focused on student needs and that ultimately impact the experience of children? How do we deal with conflict in teams? How do make sure that all of the hours we spend in meetings actually result in something meaningful and lasting? This workshop explores the extensive skill set that a leader needs to facilitate effective teams. The Art of Coaching Teams workshop focuses on the team meeting and on the highest leverage leadership moves. We address managing unhealthy conflict, setting up systems for focused team meetings, cultivating trust in meetings, and leading professional development that meets the needs of adult learners. Particular attention is placed on how to cultivate a team’s emotional intelligence and how to respond to undercurrents of tension, conflict, and dysfunction. Participants practice the necessary skills, reflect on their own leadership, and plan for upcoming meetings. Particpants learn how to establish the systems and structures in which teams thrive, set the scope and sequence of team development, and refine the ability to manage conflict and unproductive communication, as well as to cultivate healthy conflict.

Outcomes

  • Expand your definition of transformational leadership and reflect on who you want to be as a leader
  • Develop your ability to ensure meeting time is purposeful and meaningful and that it reflects the principles of adult learning
  • Hone your capacity to increase the emotional intelligence of a team as well as your own emotional intelligence
  • Increase your capacity to cultivate, repair and deepen trust among a team
  • Strengthen your ability to facilitate healthy conflict and manage unhealthy conflict in meetings
  • Refine your ability to address resistance
  • Analyze a team meeting for evidence of trust, outcomes, and effective team leadership
