CHOOSE YOUR OWN ART ADVENTURE!
ART MASTERPIECE BOOTCAMP 2017

Spend the day with us and come away ready to implement a successful Art Masterpiece program at your school. Discover techniques for engaging students in visual thinking and close looking at art. Learn strategies to create meaningful hands-on activities. Meet other Art Masterpiece volunteers to exchange tips for confidently presenting art to students.

Who should attend this event?

ANYONE looking to share their passion for art with children – No background in art required.

  • School-based volunteers

  • After-school program staff

  • Youth program leaders

  • PTO members

  • Homeschool families

* While teachers are welcome to attend, this event is intended for informal educators, not classroom teachers. Professional development credit will not be given for attending this event. Teachers are encouraged to take part in our ongoing educator professional development programs. Visit phxart.org to learn more.

A. LOOK AT ART (in-gallery experience)

  1. What am I looking at? Abstract art

  2. Close Looking for Portraits

  3. Passport to World Cultures

B. TALK ABOUT ART (in-gallery discussion)

  1. Connecting Art with Classroom Curriculum: Discover techniques to create meaningful object-based learning activities that can be integrated into a wide variety of curricula.

  2. The Art of Inquiry: Learn how well planned questions can drive a discussion about art by encouraging students to think critically and make inferences about what they see.

  3. Gallery Games: Explore interactive methods that promote an open-ended, two-way exchange of ideas between students.

C. RESPOND TO ART (hands-on activity)

  1. Artful Writing: Explore strategies to engage with art through group and individual writing.

  2. Thinking through Sketching: Discover how sketching can be used as a means for responding and reflecting about what you see.

  3. Process over Product: We’ll look at strategies to help students experience artist processes. These activities emphasis artistic process over having a finish project to take home.

FAQs

Where is the event?

Phoenix Art Museum is located on the northeast corner of McDowell and Central Ave., in Downtown Phoenix. Plenty of FREE parking is available in the museum lot, located just north of the Museum.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

  • Please leave all water bottles, food and beverages at home, as these are not allowed inside the Museum. Drinking fountains are always available. Lunch will be provided (please indicate if you need vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free option when registering).

  • Large bags, purses and all backpacks will need to be secured in the FREE lockers available in Greenbaum Lobby.

  • Please bring a pencil and notebook, so you can record all of the great ideas you'll hear.

  • The Museum tends to be chilly - you may want to bring a light sweater or jacket. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes as there will be much to see and do, during the event.

What is the refund policy?

If you no longer can attend, you can transfer your registration to a friend who can (see below).
Registration fees can be refunded as follows:

  • Cancel before October 14: Refund 100% Registration Fee.

  • Cancel October 14-21 (or No Show). No Refunds (can be transfered to another educator at no charge).

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

If your plans change, and you no longer can attend, you're welcome to transfer your ticket to another educator who can. Please email us their full name, the name of the school where they teach, and email address.
