Art in Therapy: Ethical Considerations, Practices, and Application Across the Lifespan

Come join clinical Jodi Metcalf, LMFT, Stacey Belmonte, LCPC, and Melissa Grupe, PhD, LCPC, as they share their combined years of experience treating clients using art in session. The purpose of this training is to further inform the clinician on implementing art therapy directives in treatment. Jodi Matcalf has worked in private practice, university, and community mental health settings. Jodi has also worked extensively with children on the autism spectrum and their families. Jodi has been able to implement varies art techniques with all populations.

Stacey Belmonte has worked with families that have children with developmental delays for many years; supporting and advocating for special needs within the community. She is experienced in promoting healthy coping skills and social relationships with children and teens, and helping adolescents improve self-esteem and mood.

Melissa Grupe has worked at-risk youth, chronic mental illness, mood disorders, impulse control difficulties, school anxiety, anxiety disorders, marital issues, communication issues, intellectual impairment, and developmental impairment, adjustment to life stressors, self-esteem, motivation, trauma, and crisis intervention. She has worked with children, adolescents, adults, and couples. She has traveled to Japan, Sierra Leone, and Peru to provide international consultation and services regarding education, forgiveness, trauma, community development, developmental impairment, and mental health.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Explore art therapy directives to immediately implement into therapy practice to help clients regulate their emotions and behaviors.

2. Consider the ethical implications and clinical limitations of using art therapy in clinical practice.

3. Develop a plan for introducing art into clinical practice for treating resistant and challenging clients
