ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Christine Tarnai-Hammer was born in Vienna, Austria in February of 1949. She currently resides in Hollister, CA.

She became a teacher for German, History, Fine Arts (Credentialed educator) and English in private and public middle schools after studying Art History at the University of Vienna. She studied Therapeutic Painting in Switzerland, and taught therapeutic painting to children and adults in both private and public settings.

Christine also helped to found a pilot school (middle school) in Vienna that used alternative assessments and curriculum. She was a project leader for a workgroup responsible for developing and improving the curriculum standards, and competencies (objectives) for all subjects and “soft skills” (similar to ESLRs – Expected School-Wide Learning Results and CCSS – Common Core State Standards) at a public middle school in Vienna, that was later adopted by the Ministry of Education. She was also a professional development educator (content standards, objectives, and curriculum) for the Vienna Pedagogical Academy.

Working at the Vienna Pedagogical University (formerly Academy), Christine used her earlier experience to develop curriculum standards and competencies for the Ministry of Education.

She studied Intercultural Competencies (Intercultural Studies) at the Danube University of Krems, Austria, and was awarded a Master of Arts in 2008.

Currently, Christine volunteers as General Secretary of the HIFA (Hilfe für Alle – Help For All), a charitable development organization (registered NGO) that sponsors educational and development projects in Nigeria, Romania, and Hungary.
