Art, Culture and Community Engagement

The role of art and artists in building and maintaining healthy, vibrant cultural communities is well documented. That role is increasingly important as our communities become more diverse and as technology and globalization influence our view of the world. Proactively engaging, collaborating and partnering with citizens builds trust and encourages active participation in community building. How can the arts and cultural community more effectively build these trust-based relationships to ensure outcomes are achieved and diverse community needs are addressed? In this thought-provoking discussion, Mark Holmgren explores the future of community engagement practices in arts and culture in Edmonton. He will issue a provocative call to action for the arts community to conduct authentic community engagement.
