Art has the power to bring people from diverse backgrounds together for enjoyment, discovery and learning. In this spirit, Baltimore will hold Art Bytes, a hackathon where technology and creative communities work together to build programs and applications inspired by art or to add to the museum experience. This will be our second annual art museum hackathon. This event will be at the Walters Art Museum from Friday, January 24–Sunday, January 26, 2014. Participants will be able to visit the museum’s galleries for inspiration throughout the weekend. Museum staff will be on hand to provide support for the projects, for example by providing access to the Walters Art Museum’s new API.
$5,000 in prize money will be awarded.
Judges are Mario Armstrong, digital lifestyle expert, CNN, NPR, WYPR; Jeannie Howe, executive director, Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance; Sid Meier, director of creative development, Firaxis; Sheri Parks, associate professor in American Studies at the University of Maryland and regular contributor to WYPR “Midday”; Murray Taylor, president, Digital Steamworks; and Deb Tillett, president and executive director, Emerging Technology Centers.
The Walters Art Museum brings art and people together for enjoyment, discovery, and learning. We strive to create a place where people of every background can be touched by art.
