{apple variety options}

ROME BEAUTY :: An extremely attractive and productive red cooking apple, widely-grown in North America. This apple has been around for over 100 years. The Rome has many different strains and is a late fall apple that is used in many recipes. It is a fully dark red apple.

GRANNY SMITH :: This medium to large-sized variety is green when growing and transforms to shades of red, pink, and yellow, along with their vibrant green hue when ripe. The round, thick-skinned apples are often speckled with faint white lenticels. Their flesh is bright white with a tart, acidic, yet sweet flavor and a crisp texture. Granny Smith apples are firm, with strong tartness resembling a lemon. Many believe they even flaunt lime and grapefruit elements. The juicy variety with bold sweet and sour bursts is an all-purpose apple. They are slow to brown when cut, making them great for eating fresh, crisp, and cold. Their high acidity and ability to hold their shape and zesty flavor when cooked makes them a perfect choice for baking into sweet or savory pies, tarts, or meat pastries.

MUTSU / CRISPIN :: A versatile, very juicy, large dual-purpose apple, sharp but still pleasant to eat fresh. Also known as Crispin. Excellent fresh eating variety.Known as Mutsu in its native Japan and in the USA, Crispin looks like a large Golden Delicious and indeed one of its parents is Golden Delicious so it has that lovely sweet honeyed flavor. Crispin is one of a small number of varieties which really is dual purpose - being both pleasant as a dessert apple and versatile in the kitchen.

CAMEO :: This hearty, crisp apple has a smooth, firm red and cream striped skin. The variety has a deep, juicy, sweet flavor with hints of citrus and a slightly tangy finish. This variety is great for eating out of hand and prime for cooking with too. You can add them to quiche, polenta, cobblers, pizzas, pastries, and pies. Cameo apples pair great with savory and peppery flavors like squash, bacon, pears, chili peppers, pork, nuts, and goat, cheddar, and ricotta cheeses.
