Event description

Description

The Army of Love invites you to take part in the first workshop performance as part of a series designed to enrol new recruits.

These sessions involve intimate (though not sexual or explicit) participatory movement workshops and conversations. The aim of these events is to create an environment in which to learn how to practice love towards those we haven’t yet felt attraction for, and how to become ready to receive love from those that want to give it.

The first Army of Love Training Camp will be held on 5 October, and will be led by two members of the Army of Love – Andie Macario and Grainne Dromgoole. During the session you will be invited to contribute to an ongoing debate on The Army’s motives, strategies, modus operandi, and day-to-day routines through exercises enabling the imagining of a society in which everyone can give and receive love according to their needs.

Subsequent workshops will be held on 30 October, 13 November and 27 November. More information on how to take part in these workshop performance sessions will be advertised on Auto Italia's website and social media.

Past iterations of the Army of Love Training Camp have taken place at Berlin Biennale, Casco Art Institute, Castello di Rivoli – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, ENSBA Lyon, MACBA: Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, and Städelschule.

Biographies:

Andie Macario is a multi-disciplinary Latinx artist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She lives and works in London. Macario’s work explores looking at relations between the physicality and emotionality of the body and the scopophiliac spectator. Through works that merge queer and gay femininity, voyeurism and seduction with underlying dark undertones of sexual trauma, she tests the limits of her audience by altering pre-conceived perceptions of subject and object.

Grainne Dromgoole is an actor and Artistric Director at Three Sisters theatre company. Grainne is a member of the National Youth Theatre, and is currently studying English at The University of Cambridge. Among other productions, she has performed the monologue Bunny at the Portland Arms (2017); as Ma Ubu in a gig theatre production of Ubu Roi (Cambridge Experimental, 2016) and Prudencia in The House of Bernarda Alba (ADC Theatre, 2017). She is the Actor's Representative for the Marlowe Society, a founder of The Old Vag Club Theatre Company and worked as a translator and assistant director for a touring production of Trabajos de Amor Perdidos with the Fundación Siglo de Oro in Madrid. Other professional work includes playing Mamilius in a touring production of The Winter's Tale and Josephine in BBC4's Crooked House.
