Organizer Arkansas Commitment

Organizer of Arkansas Commitment - College Night Series

Established in 1999 by the vision of Dr. Dean Kumpuris and other civic and corporate leaders of Little Rock, the Arkansas Commitment Program is a nonprofit organization created to identify academically talented African-American high school students throughout central Arkansas and guide them to become leaders of society at large as well as within the African-American community. Its primary mission is to assist these students in acquiring the knowledge, skills and professional experience necessary for effective community leadership. This is achieved by numerous workshops and events related to continuing one’s education, leadership and life skills conducted by community and business leaders, standardized test preparation, an extensive college search process specific for individual students, and a selective internship program.

Arkansas Commitment provides FREE ACT test preparation classes for our junior class, free college visits to out-of-state colleges that our students may not be able to afford to see otherwise, free essay writing and financial aid workshops, as well as financially assisting students with college enrollment fees, ACT tests, Advanced Placement exams, and other financial obstacles that may serve as obstacles to our students' educational future.

In addition to providing those services to the 160 students within our cohort, Arkansas Commitment also conducts an annual College Fair featuring colleges that meet 100% of student's demonstrated financial aid need with scholarships and grants. To assist the students of Central Arkansas Area that are not a part of our program, Arkansas Commitment also conducts college preparation seminars at Hall High School, Central High School, J.A. Fair High School, e-Stem Public Charter and North Little Rock High School. During the 2017-2018 school year, our program was able to reach over 750 students within the community.

The ultimate goal of Arkansas Commitment is to ensure future diversity in every aspect of the Arkansas community and to retain one of Arkansas’ most valuable resources – its young people
