Arizona Trail Trek- Kelvin to Picketpost Trailhead, Multinight

Join Sirena as she continues her 800 mile Arizona Trail Trek from Mexico to Utah on the Arizona National Scenic Trail!
The first 16 miles of this hike traverse along the Gila River. A few miles west after crossing Mineral Creek, visit the "golden spike" of the AZT (marking the historic location where the final mile of trail was officially completed in 2012). In the next nine miles, the trail climbs to the north through a series of incredible canyons. Hikers will travel in and out of volcanic valleys as it winds south from the monolith of Picketpost Mountain.
Moderate- 40 miles, with 3100 feet of total elevation gain.
Please come prepared with with everything that you will need to backpack this passage. You must provide your own equipment and food.
- Four liters of water plus extra two to four liter carrying capacity recommended.
- Snacks for the day.
- Headlamp/ Flashlight
- Comfortable hiking attire.
- Water purification.
- Sleeping bag, Sleeping pad, and a tent or tarp.
- Warm clothes for the night.
- A camping stove, or dinner that does not need to be cooked, such as a sandwich.
- A positive attitude.
On the morning of this hike, a shuttle will be available at Centurion trailhead. It will depart from Centurion TH for the hike's starting point (Picketpost trailhead) promptly at 7:00 AM.
Directions to Starting Point (Picketpost trailhead): Located four miles west of the town of Superior, Arizona on US 60, turn south onto FR 231, drive .4 miles, and turn left onto FR 310. Continue .6 miles and turn right at the Picketpost trailhead sign.
Directions to Ending Point (Centurion trailhead): From the town of Superior, take AZ 177 south for about 15 miles, then turn right (south) on the Florence-Kelvin Highway. Continue for about 1.2 miles through the town of Kelvin, and turn right just before the bridge over the Gila River. Follow Centurion Road past some houses to the trailhead located on the left.
