Join Sirena as she continues her 800 mile Arizona Trail Trek from Mexico to Utah on the Arizona National Scenic Trail!
Continue along with Sirena as she ascends the Santa Catalina Mountains on the Arizona Trail! The trail through the Catalinas displays the diverse beauty of the wilderness located just north of Tucson, Arizona. Hikers will be able to swim in Hutch's pool, a natural swimming hole located on the Arizona Trail before the long climb up to Summerhaven begins. Hikers will head through oak forests and thorny deserts before entering the Wilderness of Rocks, with tall ponderosa pines, cool temperatures and perennial streams. The hike ends at Marshall Gulch Trailhead in the tiny mountain town of Summerhaven.
Strenuous- 19.7 miles, with 4000 feet of total elevation gain.
Please come prepared with with everything that you will need to backpack this passage. You must provide your own equipment and food.
- Two liters of water plus an additional two liter capacity.
- Snacks for the day.
- Headlamp/ Flashlight
- Comfortable hiking attire.
- Water purification
- Sleeping bag, Sleeping pad, and a tent or tarp.
- Warm clothes for the night.
- A camping stove, or dinner that does not need to be cooked, such as a sandwich.
- A positive attitude.
On the day of this hike, a shuttle will be available at the Marshall Gulch trailhead in Summerhaven. It will depart Summerhaven for the hike's starting point (Gordon Hirabayashi trailhead) promptly at 7:00 AM.
Directions to Starting Point (Gordon Hirabayashi trailhead): Follow the Catalina highway nine miles north from Tucson, Arizona. 1.7 miles past the Molino Basin Campground turn into the Gordon Hirabayashi Campground. From the rear of the campground follow a trail south for forty yards to the intersection with the Arizona Trail.
Directions to Ending Point (Marshall Gulch trailhead, Summerhaven, Arizona): 7/10ths of a mile south of Summerhaven on N. Sabino Canyon parkway, is a trailhead parking area for the Marshall Gulch/ Arizona Trail.
Donations are greatly appreciated and will go toward Sirena's campaign to raise $20,000 for the Arizona Trail Association to maintain, promote and protect the Arizona National Scenic Trail.
