This year, the Embassy of Argentina will be part for the first time of Films Across Borders with the film “A una legua”, directed by Andrea Krujoski. This festival showcases critically acclaimed films, documentaries and shorts and from around the world. Co-presented by American University in partnership with embassies, cultural organizations, arts institutions and environmental groups.
“A una legua” will premier October 13th at 6:00 PM. The film will be available for viewing until Oct. 28th.
SYNOPSIS
“A una legua”, a documentary about folklore, narrates the journey of the musician and composer Camilo Carabajal (son of emblematic folk musician Cuti Carabal) through a powerful fusion of folklore and digital technology. Along with her partner, the Graduate in Environmental Management, Ingrid Shönenberg, Carabajal undertakes the construction of the "eco bombo": A project that integrates science and music at a confluence of scientific research, environmental management and musical enjoyment that connects Argentine folk roots with the avant-garde of the scientific aesthetic work of the XXI century.
“A una legua” has a unique appeal for audiences of various generations since it is a dialogue between them. This documentary intertwines folklore, ecology, and digital music. Interviewing prominent figures like Cuti Carabajal, Vitillo Ávalos, Egle Martin, Mataco Lemos, el Indio Froilán, Mario Paz; and the bands Metabombo and Tremor, that fuses folklore with digital music.

Get to know the Film Director
Andrea Krujoski is an integral film and television director at the CIC - Centro de Cinematographic and Technical Research in Advertising at UADE – Universidad Argentina de la Empresa. She carried out co-production workshops at International and Film Script at the EICTV (International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba).
Director, producer and scriptwriter, she directed short films fiction and documentaries. As Executive Producer and developer of feature films and documentaries she worked for Habitación 1520, and also as a tutor and jury for INCAA. “A una legua” is her first documentary feature film.
Films Across Borders
Films Across Borders, a showcase of critically acclaimed films, documentaries and shorts from around the world, returns for a seventh year this fall. The theme for 2021 focuses on Stories in a Changing World. The film festival is co-presented by American University in partnership with more than 20 embassies, cultural organizations, arts institutions, and environmental groups.
The 2021 series includes a diverse range of films – most free to the public and viewable on a variety of platforms from October through December. As additional selections are made, presenting partners will include new films to those currently listed on the series website -- FilmsAcrossBorders.org.
