Event description
Join DCist and CityLab at Solid State Books for drinks and discussion about stadiums, cities, and what's next for the RFK site.

About this Event

Note: This event was originally scheduled for October 29. We've rescheduled because of the World Series!

Even as D.C. officials move to raze RFK Stadium, the future of the 190-acre site is as uncertain as ever.

The land is owned by the federal government, and the current lease stipulates that it must be used for recreational activities. It may not always be that way; the District could try to buy the land, or renegotiate the lease.

But then what?

We know that Mayor Muriel Bowser actively favors a return of the Washington football team, and many Washingtonians share that desire. What would a new stadium bring to the city? What do the alternatives look like? What do we know about the economic effects of new stadiums? And how do cities decide what to prioritize when it comes to making decisions for huge tracts of land?

CityLab and DCist will gather a panel of local experts at Solid State Books to weigh in, featuring DCist staff writer Natalie Delgadillo; CityLab staff writer Kriston Capps; ESPN columnist, commentator, and host Clinton Yates; and D.C. ANC commissioner Tamara Blair, who represents 7D01.

  • When: Thursday, November 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and program begins at 7 p.m. We’ll leave time to network, discuss the topic, and make new friends!
  • Where: Solid State Books on H Street (600F H Street NE)
  • Food and drink: Attendees are encouraged to order beer, wine, coffee and/or snacks from Solid State. But if you want something more substantial, plan to stop by another H Street restaurant before or after.
  • Please note: Tickets for this event are free, but advance registration is required as space is limited.

The event is presented by DCist and CityLab. Invite your friends on Facebook!
