Event description

Description

College campuses and university classrooms are where the marketplace of ideas and discovery learning happen, with freedom of speech and expression the bedrock of higher education.

But an increasingly part of the equation is a potent contemporary mix of challenges and competing concerns: safety, diversity, perception, social media and hyper-partisan politics. How the First Amendment is faring and its future in this volatile environment is not merely an academic question.

Hear and engage leading national experts as they debate the question, “Are College Campuses Eroding Free Speech?" - the latest in the Debate & Decision Series at the McCain Institute.

SPEAKERS:

Samantha Harris: Vice President of Policy Research for FIRE
Robby Soave: Associate Editor at Reason Magazine
Lata Nott: Executive Director of First Amendment Center
Sanford Ungar: Director of The Free Speech Project

MODERATOR:

Ambassador Kurt Volker
Executive Director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership

Doors open at 5:15 p.m. Debate begins at 6 p.m.

The event will also be available via live stream here. Follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #MIDebate, and submit questions for our panel of experts by tagging @McCainInstitute.
