What is Arduino?

Arduino (https://Arduino.cc) is a popular open source electronics platform. The Arduino platform uses a micro controller board and accompanying programming environment to create a variety of interactive / robotics projects using any input and output devices (sensors, motors, buttons, etc). Anyone with an interest in electronics and learning to code will find Arduino the perfect place to get started.

What will I learn in this course?

This course covers the basics of working with various input / output devices AND basic concepts in coding. We will cover:

  • navigating the Arduino environment
  • working with a breadboard / wiring an LED
  • understanding the pins on our Arduino board
  • how to program the pins of our Arduino board
  • capabilities and limitations of the Arduino
  • working with inputs such as knobs, buttons, and various sensors
  • working with outputs such as LEDs and various motors.
  • Programming concepts such as loops, operators and conditionals.

What materials do I need for the course?

You will need to bring a laptop. The supported Arduino Operating Systems are Mac OSX, Windows and Linux. You will not need to purchase any Arduino materials before the workshop. ALL materials will be supplied. These will only be supplied for the duration of the workshop.

Who is the instructor ?

My name is Daniel and I have close to a decade working with Arduino.

I have created numerous interactive art and museum installations and have worked for various agencies. You can see my portfolio of work here: http://danbertner.com

I currently teach Arduino and Robotics courses at Cooper Union.

I am also the lead tech support and cirriculum development for the company OSEPP (https://osepp.com/). OSEPP manufactures Arduino compatible boards, advanced/starter kits and accessories. I have written a handful of the instructional booklets for our starter kits.
