Event description

Description

Spend four days photographing one of the world’s most iconic cities: Paris! Join us, Angie McMonigal and Michael Muraz, for an architecture photography workshop on April 23-26, 2020.

This workshop is intended to focus on the creative aspects of architectural photography. While we’re there to guide you regarding gear and camera settings on location, the emphasis is on developing your unique creative vision, composition and seeing your subjects in a new way.

You’ll get hands-on instruction shooting some of the best architecture in the world and learning how to capture stunning architectural abstracts and cityscapes. We take care of all the details for you: well-thought-out locations, transportation, and meal locations.

The workshop will be held in English and Michael speaks French.

The workshop is limited to 10 participants and the pricing is in USD. Organizers reserve the right to cancel the workshop until December 30, 2019.

SCHEDULE:

The daytime locations will focus on architectural abstracts, while sunrise and sunset locations will focus on cityscapes. A more detailed itinerary will be sent out to attendees closer to the workshop but here are some highlights.

Our meeting point each day will be the Hotel Crayon at 25, rue du Bouloi 75001 Paris.

Day 1 (Thursday, 10:00am-10:00pm):

We’ll meet at the hotel and spend the morning exploring modern architecture in the 13th arrondissement. After a break for lunch, we’ll shoot historic buildings in the 5th arrondissement. We’ll then go back to modern architecture in Montparnasse. After dinner, we’ll shoot at sunset/blue hour from the rooftop of the Tour Montparnasse.

Highlights include:

  • BEOPEN
  • Institut du Monde Arabe (Jean Nouvel)
  • Panthéon
  • Tour Montparnasse

Day 2 (Friday, 10:30pm-10:00pm):

We’ll spend most of the day in the city center, with iconic historic architecture. We’ll then head to the west side of Paris for some modern architecture just before dinner. We’ll end the day with a cityscape at Pont de Grenelle, with views of the Eiffel Tower.

Highlights include:

  • Centre Pompidou
  • Louvre
  • Musée d’Orsay
  • Palais Royal

Day 3 (Saturday, 10:15am-10:00pm):

We’ll spend the morning at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. After breaking for lunch, we’ll spend the rest of the day exploring the business district of La Défense, including the skyline after dinner at sunset/blue hour.

Highlights include:

  • Fondation Louis Vuitton (Frank Gehry)
  • La Défense Business District
  • Calder Sculpture
  • Grande Arche (including rooftop views)

Day 4 (Sunday, 11:30pm-10:00pm):

We’ll start the afternoon with the Philharmonic in Northern Paris. We’ll then come back to the city center for some historic architecture before heading to the Eiffel Tower, that we will photograph from multiple vantage points, including at sunset/blue hour after dinner.

Highlights include:

  • Philharmonic (Jean Nouvel)
  • Palais Garnier/Opera
  • Eiffel Tower
  • Trocadero cityscape

This workshop includes 7 NEW LOCATIONS this year, including two new cityscapes and access to the rooftop of the Grande Arche at La Defense. We’ve also made sure to spend more time in the best locations like the Louvre, the Fondation Louis Vuitton and La Defense.

TESTIMONIALS

Here's what some attendees of our past workshops have to say:

“Angie and Michael lead the most value-added workshops that I have ever attended. Not only do they provide pre and post review sessions, with a separate critique of participants’ work after the workshop, but their workshops are very well planned, providing a diverse and interesting selection of architecture and cityscapes; something for everybody! Both are very generous sharing their knowledge and helping each participant when needed, which is why I am really looking forward to attending my 4th workshop with them.” - Marie K.

"I very much enjoyed the LA workshop with Michael and Angie, it was great to explore and see my own hometown in a new way, visiting locations I had not yet discovered myself. Michael and Angie generously shared their expertise, tips, and techniques all day throughout the workshop, and were always available for questions and helping out the students get the shot they wanted. They were both fully dedicated to ensuring all the participants were happy and having a great time, and that everyone walked away with a little more skill than they started with. I look forward to attending another great workshop with them soon!" - Tom B.
