Description

The Arcadia Historical Society and Arcadia Public Library are pleased to present “Lucky Baldwin, the Man Who Was Never Licked!” an interactive program by Ed Andersen that will take a close personal look at the man who was perhaps the most colorful character in the early development of the San Gabriel Valley during the late 1800s. The intriguing tale will weave its way across the western plains, through the bustling City of San Francisco, into the rich silver mines of Nevada, on to Lake Tahoe and ultimately the beautiful Rancho Santa Anita, which one day would become the City of Arcadia.

Although he was exceedingly fortunate in his business dealings, thus the nickname “Lucky,” Elias Jackson Baldwin was much more than that. He was a man of ideas, a visionary who was unafraid to challenge the status quo and forge ahead despite all odds against him. The legend of Lucky Baldwin has been told in print and story, but there is more to reveal about the true nature of this enigmatic character. Join us as we journey through the pages of his life and see why he is so important to the history of our great city.
Registration not required. All are welcome!
