New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) invites the public to a student production of the exotic tale of the Arabian Nights. All performances will be held on the NOCCA campus in the Nims Black Box Theatre (2800 Chartres Street). Performances run January 24-26 at 7 PM, with a 2 PM matinee on January 26.

This cliffhanger of love, comedy, and dreams is a magic carpet ride of wonder. Scheherazade cunningly evades death by telling King Shahryar 1,001 mesmerizing tales -- each one stopping before its enticing conclusion, just before dawn. This stage adaptation offers a wonderful blend of tales from the classic One Thousand and One Nights, some of which are over 1,000 years old. The collection of stories first gained popularity in Europe and the U.S. in the 19th century.

Students from across the region will be featured in the production, including:

  • Luke Diamond, senior, St. Tammany Parish
  • Genevieve Farbe, sophomore, Jefferson Parish
  • Mary Francis Candies, sophomore, St. Charles Parish
  • Arianna Gabbidon, sophomore, Jefferson Parish
  • Andrea Gros, junior, Orleans Parish
  • Mariah Guillmette, junior, Orleans Parish
