Join the Richmond Chapter of the VR/AR Association for a panel discussion on Augmented Reality!
For our next chapter event, we will be hosting a panel discussion on the state of AR in the Greater Richmond Area. We’re very excited to be hosting some true leaders in the scene that are doing very exciting AR work right here in Virginia. Jonathan Martin from Newport News Shipbuilding, Greg Werkheiser and his team from ARtGlass, Doug Nunn from Capital One and Creative Mornings, and experience designer Angelica Ortiz.
The event will be held on Wednesday, March 14th at 5:30 PM at the Shockoe.com offices in Scott’s Addition. Address is 3122 W. Marshall St. Suite 200 (use the entrance on the side by the parking lot). Thanks to the generous support of Shockoe and the VR/AR Association Richmond Chapter, this event will also be free of charge to the public, so we hope to see you there.

PANELISTS:
Jonathan Martin, Newport News Shipbuilding -
Jonathan Martin is an industrial Augmented Reality (AR) engineer solving complex manufacturing problems using the latest advancements in the technology. As an engineer at Newport New Shipbuilding, his work has resulted in significant cost savings on products such as Submarines, Aircraft Carriers, and Commercial Nuclear Facilities. He is involved in the creation and protection of Intellectual Property, resulting in multiple AR patents to date. Jonathan regularly attends and contributes to AR conversation around the world, keeping up with this rapidly developing technology and has been doing so for 6 years.
Greg Werkheiser and Team, ARtGlass USA -
Greg is the founding CEO of ARtGlass USA, the Richmond, Virginia-based global software and services company pioneering wearable augmented reality technology that transforms visitors’ experiences at historic and cultural sites. ARtGlass deploys tours on smart glasses, layering immersive digital content over real-world art, artifacts, buildings and landscapes. ARtGlass has deployed at dozens of iconic European sites to the enjoyment of over 500,000 visitors, and just announced its first US deployments, including at George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
Doug Nunn, Capital One and Creative Mornings -
Doug Nunn is an experience designer at Capital One, founder or CreativeMornings Richmond, and mentor at StartUp Virginia. Throughout his career he has helped both small and large organizations navigate the landscape of new technologies. Doug sees augmented reality as a paradigm shift in the way that people will interact with digital content in the future. He believes that the time is now for organizations to begin considering, or reconsidering how they will create differentiated customer experiences in a world that will be more immersive than ever before.
Angelica Ortiz, Experience Designer -
Angelica is an Experience Designer/Creative Technologist and current Masters student in Business: Branding/Experience Design at the VCU Brandcenter (graduating May ’18). Her specialties lie in user experience, creative concepting, prototyping, and emerging technologies like VR and AR. When she’s not concepting or prototyping virtual/physical/digital products and experiences, she’s out teaching social ballroom to her students at VCUarts. With over a decade of customer and user experience strategy under his belt, Dan Cotting is Shockoe’s Director of Immersive Media Lead and resident “future-tech-crazy-person”. Dan fully believes that virtual and augmented reality will pave the way for an entirely new approach to business operations: improving the lives of both employees and consumers, while simultaneously increasing business efficiency and productivity. When he isn’t dreaming about this “Ready Player One” future, Dan spends his free time playing bass guitar, practicing 18th-century photographic techniques, brewing beer, and enjoying time with his wife Kelly and their five rescue pets.

Founded in 2015, the VR/AR Association is a global member community of the best minds in virtual reality and augmented reality with Chapters in major cities across the world designed to foster research, develop standards, and promote and connect members.
Members of the VR/AR Association include media and entertainment companies, advertising agencies, retailers, brands, professional sports teams, hardware developers of components, chipsets, accessories and head mounted displays (HMDs), software developers of gaming, entertainment, and productivity tools, content creators, universities and academic and entrepreneurship institutions.
The VR/AR Association promotes and supports VR/AR Chapters in cities throughout the world. Chapters are run by a Chapter President who aims to support the VR/AR Association mission. Responsibilities include hosting meetups with speakers, industry panel discussions and presentations on a bi-monthly schedule, supporting local chapter research and case studies, and assisting in connecting and promoting member companies and individuals interested in growing every aspect of the virtual reality and augmented reality ecosystem.

The Richmond chapter will achieve this through research, written synthesis, and regularly scheduled chapter events that highlight speakers from the Richmond area and beyond.
