Description

Advocates for Urban Agriculture (AUA) is organizing Food Sovereignty Action Days at community gardens and urban farms across the city all season long and we want you! These group volunteering action days seek to:

  • Support food sovereignty: the right of peoples to define their own food and agriculture systems
  • Cultivate healthy and culturally relevant food and medicine produced through ecologically sound methods
  • Connect community-based urban growing projects with needed People Power
  • Strengthen Chicago’s urban ag community and networks by forging new relationships across the city

Help us kick off the season at Windsor Park Community Garden! This garden's harvests go to community members and helps supplement the neighboring church's food pantry, which serves 50-100 families per week. We'll be prepping the beds after the long winter for a big year of growing, construct new planter boxes, and plant perennials which will fruit for years to come.

No prior experience necessary, and there's tasks to suit all experience levels. Please RSVP at the link above, and come in gardening clothes and closed toe shoes. Bring a water bottle and gardening gloves (if you have them, if not we’ll have extras). Contact Nick with questions at outreach@auachicago.org. There’s no better way to experience the impact of urban agriculture than by getting out into Chicago’s urban fields - see you there!
