The pink ribbon is the most recognized symbol for breast cancer, securing dozens of corporate partnerships and attracting the support of thousands of individuals. Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation had established a reputation among the most respected and recognized charities in the country.
Recently, the non-profit became the target of a massive public backlash over its decision to revise its granting protocols, which included Planned Parenthood. Komen immediately went on the defense to the all-out offensive strategy led by Planned Parenthood.
For the April meeting of PRAL New Orleans, attendees will have the opportunity to dissect the communications decisions – good and bad – by both Komen and Planned Parenthood. Join PRAL NOLA, as we analyze the events and actions of that pivotal week and facilitate a series of tabletop discussions on what we can learn from both organizations’ communications.
This discussion will be led by Kristie Aylett, APR, of The KARD Group PR/Marketing.
For more than 20 years, Aylett has been tailoring communications programs to help organizations accomplish their goals, previously for her employers and now for clients across the country through her consulting firm, The KARD Group PR/Marketing. She has held several leadership positions as a member of the Public Relations Society of America, including chapter president, district chair, national committee chair and assembly delegate. Since relocating from Fort Worth to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2004, Aylett has become active in the Public Relations Association of Mississippi and the Southern Public Relations Federation and currently serves as past president of PRAM and VP/membership for SPRF. In 2009, both organizations recognized Aylett with their highest individual honors, the Professional Achievement Award.
