Join fellow Hendricks County Health Partnership members and guests to learn about the health effects of Social Isolation vs. Social Connection, including the role of personal technology.


Featured Speaker:

Dr. Amanda Egan, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Marian University

Dr. Egan earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Cedarville University in Ohio in 2006. She earned her doctorate in Applied Social Psychology at Loyola University Chicago in 2016. Dr. Egan taught at Arrupe College of Loyola University Chicago for about two years before joining the faculty at Marian University-Indianapolis in 2017. Between undergraduate and graduate school, Dr. Egan worked for several years as an Intervention Specialist in the Central Ohio area providing one-on-one and small group instruction for students with diagnosed learning disabilities.

Dr. Egan’s research interests include group dynamics and human-computer interactions. Most recently she has been studying the psychological impacts of technology ownership and use. She is especially interested in how personal devices like smartphones influence interpersonal interaction, perceptions of self and other, and behaviors and decision making. Her current project focuses on how and why users develop feelings of psychological ownership toward their smartphones.
