Session outline:

  1. A brief introduction to Usability and accessibility
  2. Myths and Debunks about Accessibility
  3. Content is the King. Using IA creating Site and Navigation structure for SP site. Creating Prototypes and Mockups.
  4. Creating Master page-
  5. Accessibility testing- How initial testing with free accessibility tools can save us effort and time.
  6. Creating Page layouts- key things to look out:
    • Site structure- navigation through Headers/ Content rollup/ Order and unordered list/html markup.
    • Site Appearance- Color contrast.
    • Alt tags- when do we need it and when we don’t need it.
    • Dynamic content- rolling banner / web 2.0, - Jquery and ARIA roles assignment.
  7. If I get the appropriate permission, I will show a Case Study of DARS- Migration of Legacy Sites to SP Moss 2007 Usable and Accessible Intranet site. Will discuss challenges faced and how we overcame usability and accessibility concerns.
