This 1-day program with theory, simulation and practice sessions, teaches fundamentals of IV therapy and precise technique to insert short peripheral catheters. Attendees learn vascular anatomy, vascular access device and insertion site selection criteria, age related considerations, equipment selection, peripheral catheter insertion and troubleshooting technique, prevention and management of complications, and documentation Guidelines.
Current inserters gain knowledge, skills, competence and confidence to insert IV catheters with minimal attempts. This program is recommended for RNs, LPNs, Radiology technicians and medical office staff. During the practice sessions, attendees palpate, locate and identify deep and difficult veins on each other. An advanced venipuncture training aid is used to practice IV catheter insertion and troubleshooting technique.
