Event description

Description

Learn how to propagate apple trees just in time for gardening season!

Rob Miller - owner and orchardist at award-winning Distillery Lane Ciderworks in nearby Jefferson, MD - will discuss the time-tested technique of fruit tree grafting, including tools, timing and proper selection of scion wood and rootstocks. The workshop will then transition to a hands-on portion, where each attendee will graft his/her own apple tree to take home! Each participant will also receive a flight of Mid-Atlantic ciders and a tour of Capitol Cider House.

For those with limited outdoor space, Distillery Lane has graciously offered to keep your planted seedling at their cidery until Spring 2020, where you can visit as often as you like until it begins bearing fruit.

Doors open at 6pm. Full food and drink menus, as well as extra rootstocks and scion wood, will also be available for purchase.

This is a 21+ event. Please drink responsibly!

Distillery Lane Ciderworks

At Distillery Lane Ciderworks, 40 varieties of apples grow on thousands of trees in a nine-acre orchard. Each has its own purpose: There are French pastry apples for restaurants, Japanese apples for fresh juice, British apples for expats who need just the right flavors for pies that taste of home. And then there are the heritage apple varieties, the types George Washington grew at Mount Vernon, which are turned into hard cider for sale at the first president’s farm.
