UPDATED DATE: January 27th ONLY. Fostering Change Network will be going National! We'll be bringing the APNC to OAKLAND!

WHO: Conference for transitioning foster youth (18 -20) AND Adults who are alumni of the foster care system, working to:

  • START, build and expand their business (for profit and non-profit endeavors)

  • NETWORK with alumni to share successes and lessons learned and build partnerships that will create Social Capital.

  • CONNECT with professional services that will assist with building and expanding their business (venture capitalists, funders, graphic designers and more) and with child welfare advocacy opportunities for those interested in getting involved.

  • LEARN how foster care has shaped professional lives, discuss how to overcome foster care stigma and sustain success in all areas of their lives.

  • DEVELOP an action plan on how they will achieve a goal (personal or professional) using the tools, information and support provided at the APNC.

  • EXECUTE the plan of action developed at the APNC with coaching from FCN in the 6 months following the conference.

WHAT: The Alumni Powerhouse Networking Conference (APNC) is bringing transformative work to Foster Care through its partnership with Momentum Education!

Momentum education is a prominent organization, known for providing quality results driven coaching, dynamic personal development workshops and highly experiential team building and professional development courses. Become Powerful, Decisive and Effective with renewed passion, inspiration and clarity. What's Working, What's Not and What's Next will become evident for you with Momentum Education's trainings and tools.

Not only will the APNC provide a place for healing and personal development for people who have experienced the foster care system at some point in their childhoods, but attendees will also gain the tools, information, resources and connections to bring their personal and professional aspirations to fruition.

WHEN: Friday, 1/27/17-9AM-5:30PM

WHY: APNC GOALS:

  • 5 Start Up Alumni businesses/non-profit supported via grants and technical assistance. These awards will be given to individuals/orgs applying to FCN for support. They will not only be granted small seed dollars, but will also receive technical support (one on one coaching) around business/non-profit structure from FCN Consultants to ensure they are successful in their organization model.

  • 10 FCN Members connected to positions of authority within the child welfare system (public agencies, private nonprofits, national organizations). Through FCN’s connection and partnerships with local, state and federal child welfare agencies as well as our developing partnerships with organizations like Foster America, A Home Within and FCN Members will be connected to fellowship, speaking and Board Member opportunities and/or employment within the child welfare field.

  • Recruitment of at least 30 new FCN Members (includes transitioning youth ages 18-20), receiving one on one coaching from FCN Consultants on how to reach their personal and professional goals.

  • In 2017 FCN will 1) produce a policy agenda in collaboration with related advocacy groups, 2) disseminate agenda to 15 organizations, 3) present agenda to 3 national organizations (through conferences and one-on-one meetings). In 2018 FCN will promote policy agenda through legislative testimony, op-eds and social media, and contribute to development of 2 state level legislative proposals

  • At least 75% of attendees reporting new positive connections to alumni, business and/or educational opportunities

Proceeds from the APNC will support alumni/adoptees of foster care looking to start their own non-profit organizations, social enterprises or to expand their professional skill sets.
