Monday 11/30/2009 Topic: "Boundary, Authority, Role and Task: BART analysis of Scrum"

Speaker:Dan Mezick

Overview:
When groups of people have trouble executing on work, the root cause is often related to definitions of Role, Task, Authority, and associated Boundaries. When definitions are clear, there is little ambiguity. When definitions are clear, there is potentially no waste generated from the need to discover these definitions and related Boundaries.

Well defined BART is required to reach the hyper-productive state at the group (“system”) level. Scrum provides excellent BART definition and structure.

BART analysis is a tool for discovering solvable problems related to Boundary, Authority, Role and Task in social systems. This includes teams, departments, business enterprises and larger organizations. The actual ground rules of every organization can be identified and isolated for inspection, via detailed BART analysis. As it turns out, these ground rules directly inform behavior and culture.

In this session Dan introduces the fundamentals of BART analysis and immediately applies it to Scrum in a discussion format.

You exit this session looking at your team-- and your place in it-- in a while new way. Join Dan as he deconstructs Scrum via detailed BART analysis.

Attend this session to learn:

  • Boundary, Authority, Role and Task fundamentals ... and basic BART analysis techniques
  • BART analysis applied to your team, your department and your company
  • How to use BART analysis to deconstruct and more fully understand the effectiveness of Scrum

NOTE: This is the talk Dan gave at Agile2009 in Chicago.
