Event description
Imagine a new kind of conference where you could unleash the learning potential of the agile community to solve real-world problems...

About this Event

Imagine a different kind of conference: A conference where the challenges you face are real and immediate. Where the skills you learn are instantly applicable to address those challenges. Where you get hands-on experience applying those skills in real-world situations. Where you get to work with a team of experienced professionals. Where the solutions you provide are tried, tested, and you can see the actual results. Imagine that you were able to gather real data and draw conclusions about the effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

The Agile Professional Learning Network's Research Laboratory is a new kind of conference experience. It's a mashup of the typical conference events such as keynotes and workshops along with self-directed learning experiences, hack-a-thon like problem solving of real-world challenges, and hands-on consulting using lean and agile approaches.

Here's how it works. We start by finding real-world business challenges in local organizations, many of which are charities or small-businesses. We form a partnership with those organizations to help them solve those conferences during the conference. We'll use lean and agile approaches to run an experiment, measure the outcomes, and adjust course. We'll make these recommendations and monitor the results over time, gathering the successes as well as the struggles.

Based on the challenges, we'll issue a call for facilitators to identify potential solutions and teach those techniques to others. Conference attendees will learn these techniques and then apply them to solve the business partner's challenges. As a conference attendee, you'll get hands-on experience applying the techniques while working with a team of fellow professionals, and gain contacts in the agile community.

If you want to continue with the initiative after the conference, you can follow the research and become an active participant in a research team that will author an experience report sharing the results with the agile community.

You learn new techniques and gain knowledge and experience solving real world problems. The partner organizations benefit by experimenting with solutions to their biggest challenges. The agile community as a whole benefits through experience reports and learning about the results.

It's a Win-Win-Win!
