Event description

Description

For 44 years, API Legal Outreach has provided holistic legal and social services that are responsive to the cultural and linguistic needs of those most marginalized, including low-income women, children, elders, immigrants, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ identifying individuals. In recognition of over four decades of sustained service and community empowerment, we are celebrating Strength in Community!

Our program will include a Cocktail Reception, Photo Booth, and a Raffle!

Featured Keynote Speaker: Donald Tamaki

Donald Tamaki, Managing Partner of Minami Tamaki, is both an accomplished attorney and a champion for the rights of marginalized communities. For an outstanding 16 years in a row, Tamaki has been selected as a Northern California Super Lawyer. Further, he has played a key role in a number of important civil rights wins, including the overturn of Fred Korematsu's criminal conviction and the acceptance of Sergio Garcia to the California State Bar. Tamaki was recently announced as a 2020 winner of the ABA Spirit of Excellence Awards. Drawing from his experiences in fighting for the rights of those unheard, Tamaki will address the parallels between the internment of Japanese Americans, the Muslim Ban, and the use of detetion camps today.

Entertainment: Sunny and the Black Pack

Sunny and the Black Pack, headed by frontman Sunny Promyotin, can only be described as "genre-defying". Formed in 2015, the group is setting a new standard for Bay Area bands! Sunny and the Black Pack have played a variety of festivals and events, including Front Porch Festival and the Wente Harvest Festival.

Master of Ceremonies: Mimi Kwan, VP Community Engagement, ABC7 (KGO-TV)

With discussion from the Youth Advisory Council on the influx of mass shootings, as a form of gender-based violence, in relation to their domestic violence prevention work.
