Join us for the culminating exhibition of studio residents Aparna Sindhoor and Lisa Diane Wedgeworth, showing new painting and performance works. Light refreshments provided.

3-5pm: Lisa Diane Wedgeworth will be on hand to discuss a series of works created during her tenure. For those who would like to see more, she is showing paintings later this same evening at Louis Stern Fine Arts, 9002 Melrose Ave.

4:30-5:15pm: Aparna Sindhoor will present choreographic exceprts of her work with Anil Natyaveda and S.M. Raju exploring the theme of LOVE. The currently untitled piece is a series of dance-poems performed with music narrative, and interaction: the love of a mother, love for a beloved, love of the land, love for humanity are all explored. LOVE as the most radical idea for today's world. Performance by Aparna Sindhoor, Anil Natyaveda, Leah Vincent and Mallika Sanyal.

Dr. Aparna Sindhoor, Founder and Artistic Director of Navarasa Dance Theater (www.navarasa.org) is a teacher, dancer, choreographer, director,actor and singer. Aparna started her dance training at the age of 5 with her mother Dr. Srivalli. She has trained in Bharatanatyam for over twenty years, including fifteen with the legendary teacher Dr. K. Venkatalakshamma (a Mysore palace dancer). Aparna is one of the main proponents of the Mysore dance tradition in the world. She holds a BA in performing arts with a Gold Medal from the Mysore University and a PhD in Dance, Cultural and Women’s Studies from Boston University. She was awarded the NPN creation award, a Boston Dance Alliance Rehearsal and Retreat award,was a NEFA RDDI Artist,and was nominated for Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Choreography. Critics have hailed her as a powerful voice for creating contemporary works of extraordinary artistry and works that challenge the boundaries of traditional Indian dance, yet also strengthen that tradition. For her residency project, she is choreographing a new evening-length dance work with S.M. Raju and Anil Natyaveda on the theme of love.

Based in Los Angeles, Lisa Diane Wedgeworth is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work is rooted in storytelling. Informed by personal narratives, her work takes form as painting, video, installation, photography and archived oral histories.Wedgeworth earned her MFA from California State University, Los Angeles in 2014. Her work has been curated in numerous gallery and museum exhibitions, including the Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles and the Harvey B. Gannt Center in North Carolina. She is a recipient of the Animating the Archives: The Woman's Building A Metabolic Studio Archiving Project Fellowship and was the 2016 Georgia Fee Artist/Writer in Residence in Paris, France. From 2015 - 2016, Wedgeworth exhibited emerging artists in her studio-based project space, PS 2920, formerly located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. For her residency project, she is continuing her investigations into memory, identity and the space she occupies as a Black woman in her 40s amidst the current political climate.

Directions: The Camera Obscura Art Lab is at 1450 Ocean Ave on the west side of Ocean just north of Broadway.
By Metro - 4th St. Santa Monica Downtown stop, walk two blocks west to Ocean and 1.5 blocks north from the Pier entrance.
Parking is $6 or less for 3 hours in Parking Structure 6 (2nd between Broadway and Santa Monica), and $5 on weekends at the Civic Auditorium lot just down Main Street at 333 Civic Center Dr. Meters on Ocean Avenue; $2/hr maximum 3 hours. More info: smgov.net/parking.
