Event description
This workshop brings together energy sector developers, researchers and policymakers to discuss local and community energy in Aotearoa/NZ

About this Event

The workshop will be hosted at the University of Auckland on 26 November 2020 from 9am to 4:30 pm and is part of a Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund project on community energy in New Zealand, Denmark and the UK, led by Dr Julie MacArthur, with the collaboration of Dr Anna Berka (Massey University) and the New Zealand Community Energy Network. This collaboration and research has led to the recently launched New Zealand Community Energy Dataset.

The insights gained in the workshop will contribute to our understanding of the scope and impact of local energy activities in Aotearoa, the range of existing and potential policy supports, as well as how these can contribute to climate goals and transition to a low-emissions economy. Invitees will be from a range of government, business and community actor groups.

Our aim is to facilitate conversations and network development for this important, yet understudied, element of New Zealand’s energy sector. This background document by REN21 provides is a brief overview of the definition of community energy and summary international trends.
