Join Leica Gallery LA as we welcome Anthony Friedkin on Saturday, June 18, to share stories from his days of photographing the gay community between 1969 -1972 while only 19 years of age. Anthony will also personally sign published work, The Gay Essay , a kaleidoscopic, personal response to gay life in Los Angeles and San Francisco at the dawn of the Gay Liberation movement.
ABOUT ANTHONY FRIEDKIN
Anthony Friedkin’s photography has been recognized internationally. His work is included in the Permanent collections of the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the George Eastman House in Rochester. His photographs have been published in Japan, Russia, Europe and many Fine Art magazines in America. He received a National Endowment of the Arts grant in 1977 and was given a special commendation by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley for his contribution to Fine Art Photography in 1980. In 2020 he was selected for an Artist’s Fellowship Grant, awarded to him by the city of Santa Monica, Ca.
During his career he taught photography at both U.C.L.A and Cal Arts College in Valencia. He has guest lectured at many museums, libraries and diverse educational institutions. His exhibition photographs, created by him in his own darkroom, are included in numerous corporate and private collections.
A native of Los Angeles, Anthony Friedkin has been documenting the social landscape with his In-depth photo essays for over fifty years. By using his camera as a means of personal discovery, his full frame black & white photographs explore the many layers of reality.
