Assalamu Alaykom (peace be upon you). The Muslim Student Association at the University of Washington Tacoma invites you to join us on May 31st 2019 for a community dialogue and Iftar (breaking the fast) during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, featuring: 
 
- Lesley Hazleton, former Middle East reporter for The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, Harper's, The Nation, and The New Republic, writer and psychologist, aka 'The Accidental Theologist', explores the vast and volatile arena in which religion and politics intersect. Two of her award-winning books include “The First Muslim" and “After the Prophet". Hazleton's several TED Talks have attracted millions of views. 
 
- Dr. Hamza Zafer, an assistant Professor of Early Islam, Classical Arabic, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and Comparative Religion/Jewish Studies at the University of Washington Seattle.
 
- Varisha Khan, Activist, political leader and award winning journalist
 
- Dr. Turan Kayaoglu, a Professor at the University of Washington Tacoma of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. 
 
- Mohammad Mousa, CFO of Greater Tacoma Community Foundation and principal of the Islamic Center of Tacoma Arabic School. 
 
The speakers will be joining us for a presentation and discussion panel about Early Islam, the life of Prophet Muhammad (S), and the significance of its immediate aftermath. There will be a Q&A session - so bring your questions! Everyone is welcome so please spread the word! 
 
Dinner (Turkish Cuisine) will be provided at no cost. *PLEASE RSVP TO GUARANTEE YOURSELF A SEAT*

The purpose of the Muslim Student Association here at the University of Washington Tacoma, is to provide an open and free environment for all students to gain more knowledge about Islam and their Muslim peers. MSA strives to build and inclusive and informative space and to build bridges to dissipate misconceptions. Our goal is to not only support our Muslim community here on campus, but spread awareness and peace for everyone to truly structure the diversity of UW Tacoma.
